Add lift to your curly style!

“The single-prong (aka duckbill) clips have a slight curve in them. When you use these clips, you want to make sure the curve faces to the back of your head so the curls flow back. The goal is to move from the back of the top of your head where your curls fall back over the farthest part of your head toward the front hairline. Even if your part line is not straight but rather random, or is diagonal or zigzagged, you’re going to be putting the clips in the hair across the part line. This means a portion of the clip is going to rest across both sides of the part.

Take the clip and rest it with the curve facing toward the back of your head, with one side of the clip resting on the scalp just off to the side of the part line.Open the clip (approximately one-third of an inch) and slide in the clip so it crosses the part line (opening the clip too wide will cause the clip to lie flat on the scalp instead of its edge: you want the clip sitting perpendicular to the scalp).

“If your hair is very fine, you may wish to connect two clips together (putting the clips in from both sides), which will lock them together and help keep them supported in the upright position.Keep inserting clips across the part line about one inch ahead of the previous clip, stopping about a third of an inch from the front hairline; otherwise, when hair is dry, you might see where the clip possibly left a dent in the hair.”

“Curly Tips
When inserting the clips, you may have to use your free hand to lift the curls on the opposite side to where you are inserting the clip to have balanced lift on both sides of the part line. Keep the clip closed and pointed at the root where you want to insert the clip. Then open the clip to slide in across the part line. Ensure you are not opening the clip too wide. This will help you clip the proper amount of hair in each clipping section. Opening the clip too wide off the scalp will grab too much hair and you will find it difficult to remove the clips when hair is dry. To provide maximum root lift, insert clips under the curls where they are visibly gathered or clumped together in a group. Refer to online resources and you will find many videos about how to do this method various ways.”
